Welcome to the Wisconsin Chapter of the
American College of Emergency Physicians!  

We hope that you will use this site as a means of learning more about emergency medicine in Wisconsin.  Emergency physicians are literally lifesavers for people with severe and urgent medical conditions, accident victims, and victims of other trauma.  The emergency department is an essential public service to Wisconsin citizens.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact our administrative office.

• Wisconsin Medicaid.  Changes are likely in Wisconsin's Medicaid program as the Walker Administration attempts to close a half-billion dollar funding gap.

• Supreme Court Case on informed consent.  Wisconsin ACEP has joined in an Amicus brief in Jandre v. PIC Wisconsin, a case involving informed consent issues.  The Wisconsin Supreme Court heard the case inoral argument on September 16, 2011.

• Rights of school kids to carry epi-pens. Wisconsin ACEP has joined with a number of medical societies and the Asthma and Allergy Network/Mothers of Asthmatics in support of companion bills in the State Assembly and the State Senate which would allow school children to carry a prescribed epinephrine autoinjector device.  AB 276 and SB 204 would put Wisconsin with 47 other states guaranteeing this right.  CONTACT YOUR STATE LEGISLATOR and ask them to support these bills.  Click here to find your hometown lawmakers.
  
  
• Health Insurance Coverage.  (October 2011) About 9.3% of Wisconsin citizens have no health insurance coverage, and approximately 12.5% are covered only by Medicaid.  A little more than 53% receive employer-based health insurance.  These statistics on health coverage nationally and by state are from the Congressional Research Service.  CLICK HERE for the entire report.

News of Interest

• June 24, 2010 -- Medicare Physician Pay Cut Reversed Through Nov. 30.  The US House of Representatives this evening passed the six-month Medicare physician pay fix that passed the Senate last week. The legislation temporarily reverses the 21 percent Medicare physician pay cut in place since June 1 and replaces it with a 2.2 percent pay update through Nov. 30. The bill now will go to President Obama for his signature. CMS will automatically reprocess claims filed June 1 to 24 that are being paid at the lower rate.
